Getting Ready

Wow, it's simply amazing what we have to do to prepare for this trip.  Just a small list of what we've done in 2013 so far:

  • Minor remodel of the house to prepare for the sale
  • Bring the boat back from Mexico as our primary residence
  • Move much of our personal stuff onto the boat for living aboard
  • Hold a garage sale (pre-home sale) to get rid of 18 years of "stuff"
  • Stage the house for sale
  • Place the house for sale
  • Start trimming down all the stuff we moved to the boat, yes, it was too much!
  • Start the boat improvements that included:
    • New electronics including several safety features
    • Repair the steering system
    • Repair the hydraulic system
    • Repair the Air Conditioning system
    • Install new filters for the engine
    • Install a new ventilation system for the engine room
    • Painting and rust removal - gotta love a steel boat!
    • Repair and upgrade the grey water (shower water) system
    • Repair the water maker, yes fresh water from the sea!
    • Clean, paint and improve the lazerette, a fancy name for the storage area
    • Remodeled our Saloon (living room)
    • Added/replaced safety gear (life raft, EPIRB)
  • Sold the house - Yeah!
  • Had a second yard sale to sell all the furniture we used to stage the house
  • Researched and ordered Adam's school books
  • Changed our address again, this time to a service that will scan and e-deliver
  • Twice had to "attempt" to haul the boat, one time we found the lift couldn't handle us!
  • Made several "sea trials" to distant locations to test all of this stuff.
  • Quit our jobs of 10 years each!
  • Researched our trip, the areas we are visiting, got charts and info on everything we could find
  • Reserved the marinas for the trip down plus our stay in La Paz.
  • Arranged for Allie to visit us for Christmas break

Oh, and we have a month to go and we still have pages of stuff to do.  Yikes!
